- Storm, Hyemeyohsts
- (Wolf)A significant influence in the Deer Tribe, among the first to teach non-Native American people about Medicine Wheel teachings, and explicitly cited among those targeted by the Lakota Declaration of War and by the American Indian Movement’s opposition to the activities of “plastic medicine people.” Storm’s response labels its authors “religious hate mongers,” encourages a vision of cooperation and harmony, and proposes that all spiritual traditions are systems that promote personal growth. His book Seven Arrows (1972) remains popular among neo-shamans attracted to “Native American spirituality.” Responses to it from Native Americans point out that what they object to is not Storm’s encouragement of cooperation but his invention of practices that they do not recognize as ever having been traditional.
